3 Noteworthy Indian Web Companies

Slideshare.net Slideshare is to powerpoint like youtube is to videos. Slideshare lets you watch and embed powerpoint on the web and though there are other competitors (including Google Docs) slideshare has the mindshare and the marketshare in this market. Traffic has been steadily growing over the years and it looks like slideshare is on its way to becoming a mainstream web application like youtube. Slideshare was founded by Rashmi Sinha, Jonathan Boutelle and Amit Ranjan

Zoho.com: Zoho is a large set of web applications which includes office suites, CRM offerings and email to name a few. Zoho is a company floated by AdventNet Inc which is based out of US but the entire development team is in Chennai, India. Though zoho faces tough competition from the Google docs and Salesforce, it has managed to hold its own and has won praise from many quarters for the quality of its offerings. By managing to keep the costs low and by effectively challenging the 800 pound Goriallas in the web applications space, Zoho and its Chief Executive Sridhar Vembu has attracted attention even from economist.

Cleartrip.com: Cleartrip.com is the 3rd most popular travel website in India. It boats of an impressive list of founders including Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers and Sherpalo Ventures. It is also one of the few web companies in India which take usability and design and user feedback quite seriously.Cleartrip is also one of the handful of companies in India who have based their software stack on Lisp. That in my opinion is worth some brownie points. They are also the first private travel company in India to launch train bookings. It is very evident from the interface that a lot of thought has gone into how to make the user experience better. It is miles ahead of irctc but that was a pretty low bar to clear. They have been adding evolutionary and revolutionary features to the site which has made it the best travel site in India
