Playing with qemu

QEMU is an amazing piece of software. But a bit lacking when it comes to documentation.Had to struggle quite a lot to get network working in it.

  1. Make sure your host kernel has TUN/TAP built in or as module
  2. Make sure your guest kernel has support for ne2k-pci module If youb get errors like

    SIOCSIFADDR:No such device
    eth0: unknow interface

    this is the culprit.
  3. Copy the qemu-ifup script to /etc of the host and configure sudo.
  4. Start qemu.Make sure you use a kernel with ne2k-pci built in.Network should be configured automatically with host address as 172.20.0.1 and guest address as 172.20.0.2
